Employment
To undertake employment in Australian schools and childcare, or to operate a family daycare centre, your qualifications must be approved by the relevant regulatory authority. Your state Teacher Registration Board grants teacher registration and the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) assesses educators working in early childhood.
Teacher Registration
To be the ‘teacher’ in an Australian school or childcare centre, you will need to have completed a recognised Initial Teacher Education course and register with your state Teacher Registration Board. Each Teacher Registration Board has its own way of registering graduates of teacher programs. Click below for more information about registering in your state.

Relevant Authorities
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL)
Once an Initial Teacher Education course has been accredited by the state Teacher Registration Board, the program is listed nationally on the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) website. Every state is obligated to register a graduate of an AITSL listed course. Although this course is now discontinued, the Montessori Institute’s Graduate Diploma of Education (Montessori) is listed on the AITSL Website.
The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA)
The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) undertakes the assessment and approval of early childhood qualifications. Although now discontinued, both the Graduate Diploma of Education (Montessori) 3-6 and the Diploma of Education (Montessori) 0-3 and 3-6 qualifications are on the approved ACECQA listing.
