Course Information

The Certificate in Montessori Studies 0-5 or 3-6 years

The course offers training in Montessori education. It is suitable for teacher assistants, family day care and playgroup leaders who already hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (or an alternative ACECQA recognised qualification).

The Certificate in Montessori Studies 0-5 Years offers training at a certificate level in Montessori education and is suitable for assistants, family day care and playgroup leaders. For most childcare environments who don’t have children older than 5 years, the 0-5 years focus will be the most appropriate.

The Certificate in Montessori Studies 3-6 Years is suitable for those employed as teacher assistants in schools or childcare centres with ages 3-6 years only.

Please note: The Certificate course is not accredited and is not recognised by ACECQA as an early childhood qualification.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduation or equivalent.

Course Structure

The course is delivered over a two year period. It consists of three units which in total encompass, fourteen workshop days (the majority of which are face-to-face, but some are offered online), submission of three sets of curriculum notebook pages, three assignments and the completion of three online quizzes.

The units may be undertaken in any order; however, they have expiry dates and once the workshops for that unit have been attended, the assignments, including the quiz for the unit, must be completed by the expiry date.

The course covers:

• Introduction to child development
• Montessori educational theory and philosophy
• Curriculum studies

Study Timeframe

The approximate study times for the various aspects of the Certificate in Montessori Studies are:

▪ Course Work 36 hours
▪ Curriculum workshops and notebooks 164
hours

TOTAL - 200 hours nominal

Applicants require as a minimum High School Graduation or equivalent.
