WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MONTESSORI INSTITUTE COURSE AND OTHERS ON OFFER IN AUSTRALIA?

The Montessori Institute is the only Montessori Higher Education Provider in Australia, offering courses which sit within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and are accredited with Australian regulatory authorities (including AITSL, ACECQA and TEQSA). This means our graduates can work in Australian schools and centres with our qualifications alone. Additionally, the Graduate Diploma of Education (Montessori) is the only accredited TEACHING qualification in Australia (AQF Level 8)*. The early years curriculum of both the Graduate Diploma and the Diploma of Education (Montessori) (AQF level 5) are the only Montessori courses currently recognised as early childhood qualifications by ACECQA.

The Montessori Institute is also a provider of the nationally accredited CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (Montessori) and the CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (Montessori). The Diploma of Leadership and Certificate of Montessori Studies 0-5 and 3-6 years are not accredited, but highly regarded in Montessori schools and centres.

*TEACHER REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS: Australian states have their own registration requirements.  Montessori Institute graduates register with their own state body; or with the Teacher Education Board WA for initial teacher registration and apply under the Mutual Recognition Act 1992 for teacher registration in their own state.  All information is given in good faith and to the best of our knowledge.  We urge you to check with your state’s teacher registration body for confirmation.

EMPLOYMENT: Individual employers, including state education departments, may have their own eligibility requirements and recruitment policies.

ARE ALL COMPONENTS OF THE COURSE EXTERNAL?

No, there are compulsory face-to-face workshops with all of the Montessori Institute courses and these are held in Australia. There is also one written and one practical exam at the end of the Graduate Diploma and Diploma course, as well as professional experience in an Australian school or centre.

ARE WORKSHOPS HELD NEAR ME?

We make a commitment to hold workshops on a 2 year cycle on the West Coast and East Coast of Australia. Students may need to travel in order to complete the respective course in the minimum time frame.

Some of the locations of workshops have been: Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne & Sydney.

DO I NEED TO ATTEND THE WORKSHOPS?

Yes, as a requirement to complete the course, you must attend all of the required workshops for your course and age group. At the workshops you will gain knowledge about the Montessori curriculum, how to use the Montessori equipment and how to present material to the children in your age grouping.

WHAT IS AN AUSTRALIAN RECOGNISED DEGREE?

If you have an overseas university degree and would like to apply for the Graduate Diploma, your degree must be recognised by ‘The Overseas Qualifications Unit’ in your State. In WA, you will need to apply directly to www.det.wa.edu.au/training/oqu

Entrance into the Graduate Diploma program requires a degree from university. Applicants do not need to have a Bachelor of Education qualification, but the field of study must be relevant to the Australian curriculum.

ARE YOU CRICOS REGISTERED?

The Montessori Institute is unable to sponsor Visas of any kind, we are not a CRICOS registered body.
