SA 3-6yrs Mathematics (4 days)
This interactive Workshop is open to teachers, classroom assistants, students, parents and anyone interested in working in a Montessori educational environment with children using the Montessori approach and materials.
“This system in which a child is constantly moving objects with his hands and actively exercising his senses, also takes into account a child’s special aptitude for mathematics. ……. thus to carry out an abstract mental operation and acquire a kind of natural and spontaneous inclination for mental calculations.” (Montessori, 2007, p. 279).
Gain knowledge of the characteristics and scope and sequence of the mathematical curriculum. Investigate and understand how Montessori materials provide children with numeracy skills, not only of counting, hierarchies and the decimal system but also:
- organising, sorting, classifying, finding patterns
- operations, calculations, algorithms, fractions
- working mathematically – predictions, estimations, problem solving
- and measurement.
