 WHICH COURSE SHOULD I STUDY?

GRADUATE DIPLOMA OF EDUCATION (MONTESSORI)

This course is designed for anyone aiming to obtain teacher registration. There is an entry prerequisite of a Bachelor Degree from University.  If the qualification is obtained outside of Australia, the applicant will need to obtain an an assessment from the Overseas Qualification Unit confirming that the undergraduate degree is comparable to an Australian degree. An IELTS language assessment may also be required.

The Montessori Institute offer two age focus groups for the course, 3-6 years or 6-12 years.  Upon graduation you will be eligible for teacher registration in both Montessori and mainstream schools*.

DIPLOMA OF EARLY CHILDHOOD AND PRIMARY EDUCATION (MONTESSORI)

The pre-requisite to this course is Year 12 Graduation or an equivalent, in addition to an IELTS language assessment if the equivalent qualification is from outside of Australia.

The Diploma course may be accepted at several University Teaching courses with up to 2 years credit. Negotiations for credit are between the student and University.

This course is the best choice for:

  • Registered Teachers aiming to become Montessori trained
  • People wanting to gain a Montessori qualification as a Pathway to a Bachelor of Education at  University
  • Child Care educators in a Montessori childcare setting
  • To gain skills required for teaching in a Montessori environment

 CERTIFICATE IN MONTESSORI STUDIES 0-5 YEARS

Entry Requirements: High School Graduation or Equivalent

This non-award course is appropriate for those working in early childhood environments that do not require a qualification of Diploma or above.

DIPLOMA OF MONTESSORI LEADERSHIP AND PRACTICE

Entry requirements: Teacher registration or relevant professional experience. We recommend that you are currently employed in a leadership role in a Montessori school or centre.

The Leadership Diploma course provides specialised training for school principals, and other leadership roles throughout the school.

This course is the best choice for:

  • Principals or other leaders to gain a comprehensive understanding of Montessori Theory and Leadership.
  • Existing Montessori teachers seeking further knowledge of leadership and Montessori Practice.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO FINISH MY COURSE?

This depends on which course you are enrolled.

  • Graduate Diploma of Education (Montessori)  2 years full time or 4 years part time
  • Diploma of Early Childhood and Primary Education (Montessori) 2 years full time or 4 years part  time
  • Certificate in Montessori Studies 1 year full time or up to 2 years part time.
  • Diploma of Montessori Leadership and Practice – 1 year full time, 2 years part time

The Diploma and Graduate Diploma are in Module format and Modules must be completed within the semester time frame.  Enrolment into courses is ongoing and the Introductory Modules can be started at any time of the year.

The Certificate and Leadership Diploma are in sections. Students pay for the course enrolment in full and then pay for workshop days upon registration.

ARE ALL COMPONENTS OF THE COURSE EXTERNAL?

No, there are compulsory face-to-face workshops and lectures with all of the Montessori Institute courses. Please see the Workshop table for the amount of workshops you need to attend.

ARE WORKSHOPS HELD NEAR ME?

We make a commitment to hold workshops on a 2 year cycle on the West Coast and East Coast of Australia. Students may need to travel in order to complete the respective course in the minimum timeframe.

Some of the locations of workshops have been: Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Newcastle and Melbourne & Sydney.

DO I NEED TO ATTEND THE WORKSHOPS?

Yes, as a requirement to complete the course, you must attend all of the required workshops for your course and age group. At the workshops you will gain knowledge about the Montessori curriculum, how to use the Montessori equipment and how to present material to the children in your age grouping.

WHAT IS AN AUSTRALIAN RECOGNISED DEGREE?

If you have an overseas University Degree and would like to apply for the Graduate Diploma, your degree must be recognised by ‘The Overseas Qualifications Unit’.

ARE YOUR COURSES ACCREDITED?

Yes, the Graduate Diploma course is the only post Graduate, University level Montessori course in Australia.  The Diploma of Early Childhood & Primary Education is also accredited and both courses are registered with ACECQA as Early Childhood qualifications. The Diploma of Leadership and Certificate of Montessori Studies 0-5 years are not accredited, but highly regarded in Montessori schools and centres.

 *TEACHER REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS: Australian states have their own registration requirements.  Montessori Institute graduates register with the state body; or with the Teacher Education Board WA for initial teacher registration and apply under the Mutual Recognition Act 1992 for teacher registration in their own state.  All information is given in good faith and to the best of our knowledge.  We urge you to check with your state’s teacher registration body for confirmation.
